Douglas Melancon, M.D.

Douglas Melancon, M.D. is a healthcare investment executive and physician-scientist with over two decades of experience at the intersection of capital markets, clinical science, and corporate governance. He oversees Healthcare investments and serves as Co-Research Director at Advent Capital Management in New York, where he specializes in translating complex medical and pharmaceutical research into actionable investment positions across the capital structure.

Dr. Melancon's career spans Wall Street and the investment management industry, having served as a Biotechnology Analyst at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, and as a Portfolio Manager at Merlin Biomed, a healthcare-focused alternative investment fund. His analytical work has included deep engagement with company management teams on clinical trial design, FDA regulatory strategy, and commercial positioning — experience that translates directly to evaluating the operational and workforce sustainability of companies at the diligence and ownership stages.

A physician by training, Dr. Melancon earned his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, his M.B.A. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and his B.S. in Bioengineering, also from UIUC. He brings a rare combination of clinical, scientific, and financial expertise that supports rigorous, data-driven assessments of business quality — including the workforce and operational standards central to Nine Dean's investment thesis.

Dr. Melancon currently serves on the board of the Arthur Ashe Urban Institute of Health and previously served on the advisory board of Pax Labs. He brings to Nine Dean a deep commitment to the principle that companies with healthy, fairly compensated, and engaged workforces are better positioned for durable long-term value creation.
